What is search engine optimization

Google
Google

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the process of increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic, increasing visibility of a website or a web page to users of a web search engine. Search engines employ algorithms to attempt to provide the most relevant results to each searcher’s query, many of which are industry-specific vertical search engines. Search engines have two major functions: crawling – going through the content of the Internet and building an index; and providing search users with a ranked list of the websites they’ve determined are the most relevant. The main factors determining whether or not a site is listed are relevancy and popularity, also known as authority and popularity. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and remove barriers that prevent its crawler from accessing this content quickly when needed by someone performing said search on Google (or any other major search engine).

Increasing the quality and quantity

Search engine optimization is the process of increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic, increasing visibility of a website or a web page to users of a web search engine. This can be done by improving its ranking in natural search results through “on-page” optimization and off-page factors.

There are two main types of SEO:

  • On-page optimization – on-page refers to the content of your website. It is essential that keywords be included throughout your site in an appropriate manner so that they will be found when people conduct searches using those keywords. These are known as key phrases, which are words or short strings of words used to describe something. For example, if someone was looking for information on running shoes, they might type running shoe into their favorite search engine along with other possible terms such as athletic shoes or footwear (or whatever). If you want your pages to rank well for this query then you should include some combination of these terms in titles, headers and descriptions on those pages where appropriate.
  • Off-Page Optimization – off page refers primarily but not exclusively (and sometimes exclusively) outside sources such as links from other websites pointing towards yours with anchor text pointing back towards specific keywords/phrases you want them associated with

Organic Results

SEO is the process of optimizing a website to increase the number of visitors. It involves techniques that can be applied at a variety of levels, from altering content or HTML coding to changes in site architecture and navigation.

This includes:

  • Changing content on your website to include relevant keywords and phrases also known as [keyword research](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/170568?hl=en))
  • Linking your own pages together so users can more easily navigate between them

Algorithms

Search engines employ algorithms to attempt to provide the most relevant results to each searcher’s query. Many of these algorithms are industry-specific vertical search engines, which represent a large portion of their revenue flow. These vertical search engines gather data and information on specific niches in order to be able to provide accurate information and results for every person using them. The search engine also uses its algorithm in order to learn more about user behavior, clicks and preferences through the use of cookies.

One thing worth noting is that there are many different algorithms that can be used by companies like Google or Bing when attempting to rank websites based on relevance; this means that the way people find websites will constantly change over time as new algorithms come out (and old ones go stale). The only way for businesses who want high rankings on these platforms is by staying up-to-date with what’s happening within these industries so they know how best match up against competition when trying out new strategies such as keyword optimization techniques (more on this later).

Crawling, Indexing, and Ranking Relevance

The two main functions of search engines are crawling and providing a ranked list of websites. Search engines have been around since the mid-1990s, but they’ve dramatically changed over time.

Crawling involves going through the content of the Internet and building an index. The crawler also checks these sites for updates at regular intervals (usually every 24 hours).

Once you’ve found meaningful sites to visit, search engines provide you with a ranked list of relevant results for your query. This is where things get interesting: each search engine uses different algorithms and ranking factors to determine how many pages from each website it will show you in response to your query — and how those pages should be ordered within that list. If someone does what we call “searching on Google,” they’re actually using Google’s own web interface rather than visiting google.com directly; this makes it easy for them to find what they’re looking for!

Main factors

The primary factors that determine whether or not a site is listed are relevancy and popularity, also known as authority and popularity. Relevancy is determined by the content of the site, while popularity is determined by how many links point to it. The more relevant a topic you have written about on your site, the better it will rank for specific keywords in search engine results pages (SERPs). More relevant sites will also likely be linked to more often than less relevant ones. While there are other factors involved in SEO (such as keyword usage), these two are the core elements that matter most when trying to make sure your site ranks well in Google’s ranking algorithm.

Strategic Website Optimization

There are several ways to optimize a website, with the goal of increasing its relevance for specific keywords and removing barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

  • *Optimize content*: In order for a page to rank well in search results, it needs to include relevant keywords (actually used in the text instead of just being stuffed into meta tags). It should also have plenty of original content, which search engines generally consider more valuable than duplicate pages from other sites.
  • *Optimize site structure*: Besides keyword density, another factor Google takes into account when ranking sites is their overall architecture: How many pages are there? How many links point at each page? Where do they go? Are they all focused around one topic or spread out over many topics?

Increase visibility in search results

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a process of improving the quality of your website to increase the number of visitors to your website. SEO is a long-term strategy that requires a commitment to a long-term plan. There are certain steps you can take to improve the search engine visibility for specific keywords and phrases, but it’s important to understand that SEO isn’t just about improving rankings for certain words or phrases: it’s about creating an experience for users that provides value, answers their questions, keeps them on your site longer, and encourages them to share content with others (which leads back again).

The result is stronger customer loyalty – and more sales!

SEO is an ongoing process that requires constant monitoring and updating of your website. If you’re looking for ways to improve your search engine ranking, then this article is for you!
